Redskins Host Re-Enlistment Ceremony
On Friday, March 17, 2017, the Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park in Loudoun County, Virginia, hosted a special re-enlistment ceremony for Petty Officer Jamie Hunter of the U.S. Navy. PO Hunter joined the Navy in 2009 at the age of 23 and has re-enlisted for another 6 years. PO Hunter is a decorated sailor with numerous awards such as the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Flag Letter of Commendation, Good Conduct Award (2), Plane Captain of the Year, and numerous unit / campaign awards and Letters of Commendation.
Petty Officer Hunter, a Triangle, Virginia native, has been a die-hard Redskin fan his entire life and was overjoyed to be able to hold his re-enlistment at Redskins Park. PO Hunter commended the Washington Redskins and the NFL for their dedicated outreach to the United States military members and is always impressed by the Salute to Service Month initiative in November. PO Hunter has been a Redskins Salute member since its inception in 2014 and loved his experience attending a Redskins pre-season home game and the Redskins Salute pre-game party with his fellow sailors.
Although it is challenging to watch live Redskins game while overseas, PO Hunter stays dedicated to the team by following them via the internet, checking games scores frequently and learning about the season through letters from his parents and wife.
Petty Officer Hunter’s favorite current Redskins player is Ryan Kerrigan and his favorite Redskins alum is Joe Theismann, who he once had the pleasure of meeting. PO Hunter’s favorite Redskins memory was attending a Redskins game at RFK Stadium when he was in 3rd grade. He has a vivid memory of this game because Darrell Green caught an interception.
From all of us at Redskins Salute, we congratulate Petty Officer Jamie Hunter on his re-enlistment in the United States Navy!
