Memorial Day Weekend in DC

Next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend and the long weekend means summer is finally here! What better way to kick off the season than by heading into the district and celebrating the holiday in the Nation’s capital.

Attend the largest Memorial Day Parade in the Country

There is nothing more American than a parade filled with marching bands, youth groups, performers, and Veterans walking down the middle of Constitution Ave. Nothing. The fun starts at 2pm, but arrive early to get a good seat!

Honor Vets at the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally

Join motorcyclists from all over the country to honor POWs and MIAs from the Vietnam War. The ride is the 27th starting at the Pentagon and draws over 900,000 riders!

National Memorial Day Concert

Salute those who served and their families by attending PBS’ Memorial Day Concert. The free concert is Sunday, May 27th from 8-9:30pm on the West lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

Visit the National Memorial Walls

DC is packed with museums and memorials, so it should be easy to find one to visit over Memorial Day weekend! Some of our favorites are

-          National WWII Memorial

-          Vietnam Veterans Memorial

-          Vietnam Women’s Memorial

-          Korean War Veterans Memorial

-          American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial

Observe the Flag In at Arlington National Cemetery

On Memorial Day, servicemen and women gather at Arlington National Cemetery to place flags on 250,000 graves of fallen soliders.  Stop by to pay your respects.
