How to Properly Retire an American Flag this July
Not sure what to do with your abundance of flags from the 4th of July? Need to retire a worn out flag? Here are some great ways to donate or retire American Flags with honor and respect for the red, white, and blue.
- Veterans of Foreign Wars Post: Bring an old flag to your local VFW post where they can properly retire the flag for you, according to the preferred methods in the U.S. Flag Code.
- Local Girl/Boy Scouts: These organizations accept donated flags for future use and can also perform the proper techniques for flag retirement. Contact your local troupe for more information.
- The American Legion: This organization holds an official Flag Retirement Ceremony every year on July 14th. They take in many old flags that are no longer usable in order to retire them correctly.
